Lesson 2 of 12 · VICIdial basics

What user, phone, campaign, list and lead mean

Learn five VICIdial building blocks using one small practice campaign, and distinguish an agent's account from the station used for audio.

Start this lesson

1. The person and the phone

A user is a person’s login account. Our agent user is learner1, and LABTEAM is the user group that holds shared access settings.

A phone, also called a station, supplies the audio connection. Our station is 8001. Its login is separate from learner1: the Agent interface asks for station credentials and then the user credentials.

2. The campaign and list

Campaign LAB01 is the calling job; its settings determine how its agents work. List 90001 is the collection of contacts assigned to LAB01. A campaign can use several lists, while each list belongs to one campaign at a time.

3. A contact and its result

A lead is one contact record in a list. For practice, you will add fictional contacts to list 90001 using the lab’s internal test number.

After a call, the agent selects a disposition, meaning the call outcome. The available choices depend on the campaign.

4. Check the example

Match each identifier to its job.

  • LABTEAM is the user group; learner1 is the agent user.
  • 8001 is the phone station; LAB01 is the campaign.
  • 90001 is the list; each contact record in it is a lead.

5. If two terms sound alike

The user identifies the person; the station provides audio. The list holds contacts; the campaign holds calling settings.
